About
Céline Rodrigues is a PhD candidate in International Relations at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. The research intends to present developments in the Arctic region through scenarios considering the period 2023-2035 that will help Portugal to consider the Arctic region in defence and foreign policies as well as to replace itself in the Atlantic taking into account the upcoming connection of the (North) Atlantic and Arctic oceans facing maritime security and human security challenges in both regional contexts.
The primary area of research is on human security of Arctic Indigenous peoples with the thesis focusing on Human security of Inuit and Sámi in Canada and Finland: comparing Arctic policies, published in book version.
She participated in conferences and has published reflections and articles about the NATO and the Arctic, Governor General Mary May Simon and the rapprochement of Portugal to the Atlantic Ocean, the latter published by Instituto de Defesa Nacional (IDN, Portugal). She presented her topic research at the Climate Change and Security Network organised by NATO STO CMRE held in Lerici on October 2023 and was invited by Camille Lin from Polar Journal to comment on the Brazilian Polar Strategy.
